What the Lexique extension for Chrome reads, sends and keeps. In short: only the word you choose and its sentence, only when you ask.

Who we are

Lexique is a shared dictionary for teams who learn a language together. This page covers the Lexique extension for Chrome. Questions about it go to eugene.hetsyanyn@gmail.com.

What the extension reads

Only after you click "Add to Lexique" or open the popup, the extension reads two things on that tab: the word you selected and the sentence around it.

It reads nothing else on the page and nothing in the background. It has no access to other sites or other tabs.

What it sends, and where

  • Only to the Lexique API on lexique-three.vercel.app, using the Lexique session you already have on the site.
  • When you save: the word, the translation, the examples (including the page sentence, if you keep it) and the team you chose.
  • The address of the page is never sent. The popup only shows the site's name next to the page sentence.

For autofill, our API sends the word and your team's language pair to Groq, the service that suggests the translation and examples. No account, team, page or sentence data goes to Groq. The answer is cached by word and language pair and shared by all teams; it is not tied to you.

What is stored

  • Saved words are stored in the Lexique database (MongoDB) under your team, where the team's members can see them.
  • In your browser, the extension keeps the last team you picked (storage.local) and the selection you are adding, with the address of its page, until you save it or the browser closes (storage.session).
  • The extension sets no cookies of its own. It uses the Lexique session cookies the site already set.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or share your data.
  • No ads, and no analytics or tracking in the extension.
  • Nobody at Lexique looks at your words, except to help you when you ask for support.

Limited Use

Our use of information received from the extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
